I am very saddened at the trend of this online scam by fellow Nigerians; as a Nigerian abroad, I know that our people are very hardworking, but for God's sake, we do not need this negativity; Nigeria must be grown by Nigerians and we need to cut out all evil ways....I sincerely hope nobody falls for these scams, there are so many techno benefits aside ATM that we can copy from the west, but these fraudsters may just pollute the trust of the ordinary Nigerian with their evil ways.

It would be easy to be tricked by an email like that for people who don't really look at what they read on the Internet. I recently received on like that too but I instantly knew that it was a scam. This is the one I received...

                                                   Dear GTBank customer,

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures, we have detected a slight error in your account information.

This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information (i.e. change of address).
2. Submitting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
3. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our automated teller machine (ATM) processors.

Please update and verify your information by clicking the link below:

https://ibank.gtbplc.com/ibank2/login.aspx

If your account information is not updated within 48 hours then your ability to access your account will become restricted.

I often check my emails at
http://www.scamemail.co.uk
-its surprising how 'real' some of them look!
